Dr. Schmiederer has over thirteen years of experience in the field of histocompatibility and parentage testing. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Florida Atlantic University in 1992, and worked as a medical technologist in a clinical hospital lab before returning to academia. He earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine in 2002. He joined the DNA Identification division of LabCorp in 2007 after completing post-doctoral training and research at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. His current responsibilities include human leukocyte antigen (HLA) testing, assay development, and full clinical histocompatibility support for transplant centers and bone marrow registries. Dr. Schmiederer is board certified at the Associate level by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and holds a Certificate of Qualification by the New York State Department of Health to act as a Laboratory Director in the categories of Relationship Testing, Engraftment Monitoring, and Histocompatibility. He is active in the histocompatibility community and serves as a member of the Histocompatibility and Identity Testing Standards Committee for the College of American Pathologists.
