This symposium will highlight the latest advances in fields that relate to histocompatibility.  Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation refers to transplantation of tissues such as bone, muscle, nerve and skin and serves as replacements for limb damage and loss.  As with other solid organ tissue, VCA transplants are subject to rejection and therefore, histocompatibility plays a role in their success.  Bioengineering was adapted into the research field of transplantation when 3D printing was shown to be able to “print” a beating heart.   This technology is exciting as it has the potential to solve the ever burgeoning shortage of solid organs.  This session will include discussion on these topics and more so be sure to join us for this exciting symposium.
